Malaysia Xiangqi Summit: Victory by Two Generations of Xiangqi Champions
2024 "Dato Wong Hong Seng Mayor's Cup" Xiangqi Doubles Open Tournament was successfully held in Kuching, Sarawak, Malaysia from June 1st to June 2nd. The tournament attracted excellent xiangqi players from China and Singapore, as well as international xiangqi masters from Malaysia. A total of 24 teams (48 players) competed for a champion prize of RM 6,000 (approximately 9,000 RMB).
Opening Ceremony
Dato Wong Hong Seng, the Mayor of Kuching South City, hopes that through the xiangqi tournament, more people can be inspired to develop an interest and passion for xiangqi, thereby promoting wider dissemination and inheritance of this traditional cultural treasure.
He pointed out that xiangqi teaches everyone how to remain calm and make sound decisions amidst complex situations. It also teaches perseverance and how to find breakthroughs in challenging circumstances.
He expects all participants to approach each game seriously, strive to excel, and surpass themselves. He hopes that competitors will uphold the principle of "friendship first, competition second," displaying their unique styles and showcasing their skills, thus fully demonstrating the charm and elegance of chess.
